Sorry, do you speak Swiss?
How do people communicate in Switzerland? đŸ«•
During debates, for example in the Swiss parliament, politicians may speak in three of the official languages: Standard German, French or Italian. They are expected to understand the other two – there are no translators!
And what happens when Swiss people meet someone from another region? đŸ‘‹
First, they may have to cross the so-called ‘Röstigraben’, the border between the German-speaking and French-speaking parts. This separation is not only linguistic: culturally and politically, these regions tend to be quite different, with distinctions in political tendencies, work culture, media, traditions, cuisine, etc.
